you should do a review for the ipod ear buds, like a benchmark for other ear/headphones to provide an actual comparison of how good they are compared to the white buds. i know you won't enjoy it, but it has to be done. spread the word with a review...

comment haim said on 21st December 2008

Any chance of a review for knobs like me who like wearing big cans on their heads?
I'm not really a fan of the buds and inner ear thang. Also the 50 - 100 quid range is more my interest to tell the truth.
And why we're at it lets rename the site to 'Reviews for Haim'.

Can you do a review of the Alessandro MS 1 headphone?

Nice round up.

A couple of years back Riyad reviewed a set of super.fi in-ear headphones and said that they would just not stay in Benny’s ears!! Well, I think I must have similar shaped ear canals to Benny because I find it really hard to find a set of bud headphones that will stay in properly.

Did you happen to notice a difference between the fitting of these three haedphones? i.e. did any set offer a more snug fit than the rest?

You should do a review of universal in ear monitors from £100 to £300. Include the higher range UEs, Shures, Klipsch, Westone, Sennheiser etc

I'm sure there are some readers here who will be interested in higher quality stuff than what you've just reviewd.

@Haim, I've actually been thinking about this, so we'll have a chat here and see what we can do. Not sure we can help with the rename though ;)

On the iPod buds, general opinion here is that they're not the best out there, and we mention this fairly frequently. We'll be sure to look at any other Apple 'phones that appear, however.

I'll throw my little penny into the muck: How do they compare with Senn's CX300? Is it
another league?

It would be great to unify the reviewing method to allow on-site comparisson of
different buds. It can be done, and it would be in my opinion sort of a revolution
amongst other sites. I actually mailed you about this couple of months earlier. :)

What are the chances of seeing a high end iem round up some time soon? The Westone 3 universal iem has recently been released and it would be interesting to see how they stack up against the rest of the field.

If you do any future comparisons, I would like to learn from the reviews of these which might be suited to particular applications. I listen to alot of "spoken word" recordings, both at home and in particularly noisy environments (the London Underground, on some of the screechiest lines) and would like to know which would be best, particularly for the latter situation, without having to crank the volume up to damaging levels.

Thank you.

bit of an aside re. ipod headphones. dunno if any of you guys know Prefuse 73 (http://prefuse73.com/) but he made an interesting comment on ipod phones in an XLR8R interview with madlib:

XLR8R: What's your daily routine as far as making music?
Madlib: Wake up, eat some cereal and make beats. Then it's about twelve o'clock at night and I have no windows, so I don't know what's what.
Prefuse 73: That's insane. I wake up, go straight for the coffee, café con leche, work, and then sometimes I'll try and stop for a minute in the afternoon, especially where I live now. Just walk around, listen to my headphones, listen to what I did, see if it sounds right, go back and mix it again. But I like to mix everything in iPod head- phones, you know? So I know it'll sound good in the worst headphones I could get.

:)

That's a brilliant quote - glad to see we're not the only ones banging on about it.

It's also a very good point for any budding recording artists out there - always use a variety of playback devices during mix down before you send off for mastering. A mantra that's easily forgotten in the rush to do things on a shoe string.

Randy,

I haven't much experience in this field, but I remember doing a lot of research before I decided to buy my 'phones, which are the senheiser cx300. Personally, I think they're fantastic. I don't have the audiophile knowledge to bellyache on about low frequency response and sibilance and all that, but I can tell you that they seem to produce a very full round sound, with lots of bass where its needed, without losing anything at the upper end either. My only criticism is that the wires are thin, and they do transmit some swishing sounds if you are walking with them.

comment Randy said on 23rd December 2008

Bluepork,

Thanks. I was also blasted away by the richness of the sound of CX300's, but after some
time i thought that headphones can do better, so i'm in a market for higher end headphones now.

My bet for now is Philips SHE9850. TR staff puhleease help :)
I'm happy to say that every item bought after your review was a money well-spent.
I bought Ipod nano 2gen, Panasonic's fantastic 42in plasma, HP photo printer and
a bunch of other stuff. Great job, guys.

Heck, my reference cheap pair are the Creative EP-630. Considering they can be had for less than a tenner they are pretty good.

Great Roundup. It realy helps to have 3 earphones, in the same price range, reviewed and compared within the same article.

Maybe, you guys could do a similar roundup in the future for the earphones in the middle segment (£50-£100) and high-end segment.

Can't wait to see you guys review high end IEMs such as the one from Shure, Westone, and UE. I have Shure SE420 and I am happy with it, but as nobody ever satisfy with quality, I am considering to get either SE530 or Westone 3, and having a review from TrustedReviews will help me a lot deciding which one to pick.

Good roundup from a very good site. Its Jan now and Sennheiser have upgraded their product range (including a more expensive version of the popular cx 300). It would be interesting to see further reviews in this price range including some of the ones mentioned in the posts above. There are many new mp3 owners since Christmas who need your trusted guidance.

comment Rickysio said on 15th March 2009

So Shure's SE102 still wins the field, eh?

It's either upgrading to the SE102 or staying with my Creative EP-630.
^ No brainer. But still, I'm checking more DAP/PMP with good sound reproduction AND battery life first, and if the price rapes my wallet the SE102 might have to wait.
