How I wish Iriver would do, not a scaled down version of the Clix2 but, a larger version of this player. Give it a 3.5inch screen and 32GB capacity (or 16GB with an expansion slot), and you've got yourself a winner.

Is this a relaunch of the S60? With more memory, obviously.

Why don't more manufacturers include card slots on media players? It might add a few quid to the price, but that's more than balanced by the flexibility it affords.

Johnathan,
1. The L-Player was never intended to serve as a direct replacement for the Clix2, the iRiver Spin does.
2. The Clix2 was not the 1st iRiver player to utilize D-Click navigation, the Clix (Duh!) was, and...
3. Even before the the L-Player, the iRiver S10 featured D-Click in a much smaller package, so your claims are somewhat off here.

I meant S10.

Thanks for the review Johnathan.
I have a couple of Questions:
*Were the batteries tested on the Lplayer? if so, how many hours did it last from a full charge?
*Can you make multiple playlists on the Lplayer (Unlike the Clix2)

DaHarder,
I really dont care if either the Lplayer or the Spinn is the replacement for clix2. They both max out at 8 gb and that's just not good enough in mid 2008
don't get me wrong, i love my clix 2 but 8 gb is not enough capacity for me, and i would love another iRiver, but i guess i'll have to wait or buy a sony player..

You forgot to mention that it supports flash games (and comes with some), has a photo viewer and a text file reader, and that it can record from FM. My original Clix has these features so I'm sure this does as well. It's an extremely feature rich player.

8Gb??...Hardly capacious, considering most manufacturers are now standardizing the 16GB capacity, and some are even talking of coming out with 32Gb versions, i'm kind of dissapointed with iRiver.
I could have actually considered buying this one alongside the brilliant Sony NWZ-A829, since you say both offer comparable audio quality, but the low 8Gb capacity kills the deal for me.
And no memory expansion options either, like the Cowon D2, not cool.
I'll just have to wait for the Sony NWZ-A829 then.
