the only reason i can think of for this not being a fake is that if it were a figment of someones imagination it would 64GB of flash memory.
But personally i do hope they bring this out, the hardware looks brilliant :)

If this has decent storage (64 or 128GB anyone?) it may replace my Zune 120.

perfect timing, with the iphone 2 comming at the same time... i'm going for the iphone, because.. well i think its going to be alot better. and btw xbox games on that device?:P like with what controls will that be happening? i can see some of the arcade games being ported though.
Gordon said on 16th April 2009
@Ohmz - you didn't read about the 120GB HDD option in the article? ;)
@Tari - technically it will be the iPhone 3!
Ohmz said on 16th April 2009
@ Gordon, what makes you think I was referring to HDD instead of flash? 128GB should have given it away. :)

RE: Article:
If it's coming out in September, then it can't be based on Windows Mobile because WiMo doesn't currently support capacitive screens or multi-touch, both of which won't be coming until WiMo7 which is next year...
Looks like a good player - I'm interested to know what resolution the screen is - must be 800x480 minimum! Also, what codec support - if it doesn't have .ogg or .flac I declare it a failure from the start
Gordon said on 16th April 2009
@Ohmz - fair play, don't think the market is there for a £600 MP3 player though ;)
@ChaosDefinesOrder - a very good point. Then whatever it is on let's hope Microsoft builds a phone around it!

I reckon Vole Central have hired a designer. It actually looks quite good. Of course no-one has mentioned the dreaded DRM ..... and if it doesn't support Playforsure then they can count me out.
Oh wait .....

Gordon "fair play, don't think the market is there for a £600 MP3 player though ;)"
I don't know, stick a certain fruit badge on the front and they'll be queuing round the block ;)
(I hope it comes with a good email client)

@ lifethroughalens, you mean a blackberry? ;)

Life Through a Lens : "I don't know, stick a certain fruit badge on the front and they'll be queuing round the block"
Have to agree with Lens there. Didn't the 16gig iPhone launch in excess of 300 quid on top of its 18 month contract? I'd say that's bad enough. I'd rather pay that for double the capacity and minus the lacklustre expensive phone feature, hence why I've always been more tempted by the Touch.

Let's hope they make a phone out of this, bit tiring to have Apple out there. I am continuously waiting for Apple to release a decent version of their Iphone before forking out on the price tag. It would be good to have more competition out there, more choice is better for consumers. I also hope that Microsoft "M$" doesn't charge us an insane amount of money for this player, for what I've seen so far, I definitely would like one!

No! Orange, of course!

Why would I want to play HD material on a 3.5in screen for Chrissake!? I assume the screen is 'HD ready' rather than 'full HD'.... I doubt either, but there goes MY cynic gene again ;)
Or, are they playing with the 'HD' term, like other brands seem to be doing now grrrr.
Randy said on 17th April 2009
@Chocoa
You're so far away from the point. Fur stoval it doeas actually look good to have more than industry-standard 320x200 on 2in screen. HTC touch diamond serves me as an example.
More important for me though is HDMI on the side, meaning that you can play hd movies on your TV with this. Suddenly WD HD TV doesn't look so tempting to me considering you have to pay extra for external drive.

They have, or what planet have you been living on. :)
Saying that, like everyone said I do hope they come out with a Phone version of this, I wouldn't want to go back to having to carry multiple devices again, thats going backwards in my book. As an IPhone user I'm really hoping there is more competition, helps keep Apple on it's toes and hopefully removes some of it's restrictive politics.

On an entirely unrelated side note:
TR was on BBC News this morning as an example of a site related to Google Cookies and content matching or something...they didnt name the site tho, just showed a screengrab as they scrolled :(

I reckon this is very good news for the Palm Pre. With Microsoft creating consumer devices with multi-touch features, it looks like Apple will have a much harder time protecting their exclusivity on that particular feature.
And yes, I know the big-ass table got there first, but a $10,000 machine was never going to turn the market on its head.
ravmania said on 17th April 2009
It looks like a prettier Touch Diamond 2 to me and can't wait too try one out.
I'd be suprised if it wasn't based on WM 7 though as we know that Zune is going to be a marjor part of WM7 so would building it separately make sense? I imagine it would be like a TouchFlo 3D (done better) that is deeply integrated and never goes into legacy WM UI.
Gordon said on 17th April 2009
@dev - I heard this but missed it. Any ideas if there's a link/iPlayer footage?
Wilfried said on 17th April 2009
@Keith: To me they haven't ;-). To some people, the current Iphone has all the features they want in a phone. I would personally like to see an Iphone with a minimum of 32GB capacity, longer battery life, a minimum of 5 MP camera with flash and auto focus, and I would like them to revert to the metal body for a solid feel. It's asking a lot, sure, but that is what my personal preferences are.
If I'm not mistaken, Apple is planning on announcing a new Iphone (allegedly) in June, so I'll be, like a whole lot of people, waiting to see what they come up with, for now, the Iphone does nothing for me.

I really _REALLY_ hope this is true, I've been wanting the Zune since the early ones but with no support from the Marketplace I've held back.
This device however (specs apparantly confirmed http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/04/15/exclusive-lets-talk-some-zune-hd-specs) looks stunning!
This device and any old phone and I can gleefully ditch my iPhone for something decent!
Fingers crossed this comes true.
