CES 2009: Sony Unleashes Touchscreen X Series PMP Comments

Well at least now I have a PMP to match my granite effect kitchen worktops. Oh how long I have waited...

Seriously though, what's up with that? I was waiting for Sony to muscle in on the touchscreen PMP market with their wallet-busting alternative, ever late as usual. I'm sure it'll have the sound quality to best the iPhone/Touch, but can it really match up in the UI department? (any word on multi touch support yet?)

actually that battery life is incorrect. From what I've read,on the numerous tech sites out there and from Sony themselves the 12 hour battery life was for the Sony Walkman W series, while the X-series hasn't received an official battery life. Though if I'm wrong I apologize. BTW finally there's an PMP that matches my counter tops:P

I thought that wallet busting comment was misinformed, especially for a tech website. Yes Sony's products tend to be more expensive than their competitors, but not in every single area. Their pmps and mp3 players for example, have always been very reasonably priced. When compared to the prices of iPods, the Sonys look cheap!

This Walkman looks absolutely incredible. I wonder if it can make me regret buying my Zune now...

Well a friend of mine (not an apple fan) not long ago purchased one of Sony's newer models the NWZA-828 (I think) for a little over £150. This was the 8gb model and is very close to the 8gb iPod touch price point, which, although the sound quality isn't quite as good, offers more than twice the features. I admit that they are generally not as expensive as apple products (save for their vaio notebooks) but then what is? I am a fan of most of Sony's products though when the price is right because they often offer superior sound and build quality than their rivals without compromising (too much) on looks or usability.

Sorry but the Sony's being expensive was a little uncalled for, in most market sectors they do operate in the premium range, however for mp3 players they have some of the best value for money players on the market as it's not hard to find their 16GB NWZ-S639 for around £90.

Nice Screen Sony, i have my JXD 302 LTPS screen and is best in its class for the moment, i really hope that this Sony device could add a Camera of 3mp or so and im sold ...

Wallet busting and 12 hours battery life are both unfounded comments - Sony has not yet revealed either.
The last I heard, the audio battery life was going to be 30 hours, but again this is probably either a mistake or wild speculation.

I just very cleverly managed to crack the screen on my A728, which, though frustrating, opens up a window for this. Even to that, there is a bright side!
Now I've just got the long wait for summer, when it should hopefully be released.

Did they actually say that?

If so, I really do hope they improve...

Finally Sony is relasing a great piece of MP3-device. Seriously, I guess I'm not the only one who was looking forward to see a full-touch MP3-Player of Sony.

They've been doing very well with the Walkman-series and I'm confident that they are going to really rule the market this device.

I've yet to see any specific battery information for the X series on any of the other tech sites I visit and I seriously doubt that they'd miss something like the low battery life you're suggesting it will have, so I'm hopeful that your concerns regarding battery life will prove to be a red herring.
