While ultra thin HDTVs were clearly the primary theme of IFA this year LG - though a fully signed up member of this club - also had a couple of noteworthy PMPs doing the rounds.

Setting their sights clearly on the iPod touch are the 'T80' (above) and rather more glamorously - if confusingly - named 'Touch Cinema MP3' (below). Both share a number of commonalities: touchscreen, finger friendly interfaces (why not just put them on a phone, LG?), up to 8GB of onboard memory, FM tuners, flash based games and the company's own '3D Sound Effect' audio processing engine.

Where they differ however is significant: the T80 features a 3in LCD and the Euro friendly DVB-T standard for viewing mobile TV while the Touch Cinema is a straightforward multimedia player with a 2.2in screen.

Happily, in use both are intuitive and the response from their touchscreens is sharp enough to suggest the company is now using the snappier capacitive (a la iPhone / iPod touch) rather than resistive touch technology.

No official prices or release dates were available but LG did say to me they'd certainly be here in time to fill our Santa sacks. Promising stuff...
