it's pig ugly... there, i said it :D

personally i can't see the reason behind whacking a wide screen on a player this size, anyway.

I think this is the Nano 4G... it fits rumours from varied sources that say Apple are going back to the candybar form factor, and it's curvy chassis fits Apple's recent trend of styling to make devices appear thinner by adding curves...

The iMac - bulges at the back, MacBook Air - teardrop shape, and iPhone 3G - more back-bulge...

And I'll wager that they arrive in September, infact I think Apple might just be planning a major overhaul ready for the Christmas period. Because slowing iPod sales show they are in need of revision - focus seems drawn to the Nano & Touch... MacBook's have been due their aluminium makeover for some time. MacBook Pro has been due a new (and much rumoured) chassis. And then we start thinking about Centrino 2. And whether the iMac might get in on the action. But rather than putting too much on Apple's plate - I say new Nano, Touch, newly designed MacBook & MacBook Pro's packing Centrino 2 in September...

Game on...

It's looks like a really bad 3ds max render with a blur applied, it looks awful and I doubt it's real however this is Apple...

It's not really in line with classic Apple design. I'd expect something that deviates from previous models but nothing radical. A dead give-away is the curved front, it wouldn't sit flush with the touch wheel unless they curved that as well, which would cause problems.
I can't yet decide whether I like reading about tech rumours... it's fun though!

The iPod Touch 8GB is already at $299.

comment Gordon said on 25th August 2008

@Luan - in the UK it is £199 ($400) so the price drops would be extremely welcome.

comment Juxtah said on 25th August 2008

@Luan - that's still too expensive for what it does, considering the Archos 605 has more features including a bigger screen and is cheaper the 8GB Touch would need to come down to £120 to even make it slightly worth it.

And @ Shaun O'Flaherty - Apple brings out revisions almost twice a year, so they are due. However Apple being Apple the degree to which the designs will change pales in comparison to companies like Cowon (see the jump from the D2 to the S9 Curve). And Apple getting into centrino 2 this early? Again I doubt it, they will doubtless make the switch at some point but I'd expect it to be early next year before they do so.

@Juxtah, but does the archos fit in your trouser's pocket ? I've been working on both the Touch and iPhone and I rather have the Touch. Waiting for the refresh to get my personal's one.

@Gordon, I know that, but I assumed the article was talking about the US otherwise why list the price in $.

i hope apple put a dedicated graphics chip in their macbooks... i am swaying so far to the mac side ( to try out running windows), the only thing stopping me is the graphics options. and i love the macbook keyboard.

comment Ironduke said on 25th August 2008

the new macbooks will for sure use intels new gfx chip, its alot better then the current ones but still not upto scratch, question is are they going to do anything with the mini?

I long for the day intel release a smaller version of the macpro (similar in size to the Silverstone SG03) for Mac Owners who want desktop power and windows gaming

comment Juxtah said on 25th August 2008

@ Luan - Have you seen them next to each other? The archos is about the same thickness, and only wider by a few millimeters and taller by a centimeter. The fact is that if you can fit the iPod Touch in your pocket without a squeeze you can manage the Archos.

@Juxtah - much as we love the Archos 605 (http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/review/2007/09/19/Archos-605-WiFi-30GB/p1), it isn't a particularly pocket friendly device! Now the Archos 5 on the other hand...
