I don't think I'm alone in being sceptical about the value of the Starbucks add-in for the iPhone and iPod touch, but it's certainly trying to win hearts and minds...

The monolithic coffee house has confirmed that between 2 October and 7 November 'Song of the day' cards will be handed out by staffers to each customer which can then be redeemed at the iTunes' store.

Yes, this does mean that you can't actually pick your own free track but in typical Starbucks' style a range of 37 pseudo cool/classic artists will be featured with Bob Dylan's Joker Man kicking the whole thing off.

600 branches of Starbucks in New York and Seattle (they have 600 in just two cities?!) will be first to run the promotion with San Francisco being added in early November. In typical Apple fashion however there is no mention of any European deal though we do know Starbucks hopes to add integrated iPhone/iPod touch compatible WiFi into all its outlets before the back end of 2009.

Pah, coffee... I just don't get it...
