Meizu Mimics Creative ZEN, Halves Width

TrustedReviews NewslettersMy headline is a little harsh on both companies. For one, Meizu didn't mimic Creative's ZEN - its 'Mini Player' range pre-dates it by over a year - and two, its latest offering isn't half the depth.... quite.
In what surely must be the final PMP/MP3 player announcement before Apple's 6PM iPod unveiling (let's call a spade a spade) Meizu has formally announced (I had a whiff earlier) the 'Mini Player SL' (stands for 'Slim') which features and improves the goodness of the original Mini Player before squashing it into an industry shaking form factor of just 79 x 48.2 x 7.3mm.
On top of this the player's screen size has also increased a teeny bit, going from 2.4in to 2.41in and the viewing angle has been enlarged. A new audio chip makes it onboard too and promises better sound quality along with the addition of APE lossless playback to complement the existing MP3, Wav, Ogg and AVI video.
An FM tuner, proportionately cracking battery performance (26 hours continuous audio/4.5 hours continuous video) and exponential capacities of 2GB, 4GB and 8GB round things off nicely.
China, naturally, gets the SLs first on 25 September but European importers have been pleasing the fans of this cult company for some time now.
RRPs work out as just $90, $110 and $150 (*swoon*) but expect to pay more on these shores.
Apple, over to you... no pressure!
