With new iPods seemingly coming on Thursday everyone is trying to get in first...

Sansa's Clip, Creative's ZEN, Tohiba's T401, Cowon's iAudio Q5 and SuperTalent's Videgos were all announced in the last week so it's clear Apple's rivals knew something was brewing for September. Will Archos be the last to beat the 5 September deadline?

The PMP specialist has come up with the '105' - something that looks decidedly MP3ish. I first heard about the model with the launch of the 605 WiFi but now we have official news and photography.

As predicted, the 105 is extremely nanoey but - this being Archos - it is video friendly. That said, the 1.8in 160x128 pixel screen and WMV only codec support may not make the feature as enticing as it could be. On the flip side however the 105 has MP3, WMA and WAV playback (DRM free ACC wouldn't have gone amiss) and an excellent 18 hour battery life.

Perhaps best of all however is the player's portability. With dimensions of just 85 x 45 x 7mm and a weight of 50g it is one for the smallest fully featured players out there and a £65 RRP makes it eminently affordable.

The 105 is out now so if you're skint and have a penchant for wearing Lycra you know what to do...

...seek help.
