Three Billion Songs Sold On iTunes

Frankly I don't know what I can say about the latest music sales figures from Apple except "wow". While completely unrepresentative of the actual distribution, it's still food for thought that the iTunes store has now sold almost half as many songs as there are people on the planet. Clearly a lot of people don't agree with Andy that the industry needs to improve the way it sells music online and are quite happy with the current offerings.

Curiously, at least to me, this means that the owners of those three billion songs are also quite happy to be restricted to using their iPod (or PC) to play said music - not to mention unconcerned with the DRM restrictions imposed until recently. Hopefully Apple can follow up this story by announcing a touchscreen iPod soon. Or perhaps it can tell us when we're getting the European iPhone and on which network.
