Ubiquitous Taiwanese monolith Foxconn has announced what could be the first publically available motherboards based on the impressive Intel '3 Series' chipsets for mainstream and performance sectors.

Utilising the Intel P35 chipset, the company's new 'P35A-S' and 'P35A' mobos promise better all-round system performance with support for Front Side Bus (FSB) speeds of up to a cracking 1333MHz, built-in future proofing for forthcoming 45nm processors and Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo support.

Interestingly, while the P35 chipset claims to provide more performance with less power draw, Foxconn has removed the overspeed protection for both boards. This will obviously enable greater tuning capability but also the potential to fry your components if you don't know what you're doing.

As for the raw specs, the two mobos can handle dual channel DDR2 at up to 1066MHz holding up to 8GB RAM, have 2 PCIe x16 slots with CrossFire and Foxconn 'Multi-Graphics' support, 1x PCIe x1, three PCI slots, 10 USB2.0 ports, Gigabyte LAN and onboard 7.1 HD audio. The P35A-S also throws in 6 SATA II connectors (as opposed to the P35A's four), FireWire and RAID (0, 1, 0+1, 5 along with Intel's Matrix Storage and Rapid Recover Technology).

No prices have bubbled to the surface yet, but if you've attained your MG (Master of Geeks) in Geekology and actively get shunned by members of the opposite sex you'd better be waiting outside stores (raincoat n all) on 4 June...
