Perhaps one of the coolest offshoots of the new Vista OS has been the support for ‘SideShow’ in recent Asus and LG laptops but now we have a way of getting it onto our desktops too…

With the launch of Asus’ new ‘Vista Line’ it is unveiling four mobos ready for Microsoft’s impending OS, the top two of which come with ‘ScreenDUO’ - a secondary display for SideShow information that connects via USB.

All four bundle a remote control to take advantage of Vista’s more (whisper it) OS X-ish approach to multimedia. Just like a TV remote it can switch the PC on and off, as well as launch favourite programmes and navigate files and folders. Flash cache is also incorporated to improve boot times via Vista ReadyBoost.

Of the four models, two will support AMD processors: the ‘M2N32-SLI Premium Vista Edition’ which comes with a ScreenDUO display and is based on the nVidia nForce 590 SLI chipset and the midrange ‘M2N-Plus Vista Edition’ which is based on the nForce 500 SLI chipset.

The Intel series is made up of the ‘P5B Premium Vista Edition’ (ScreenDUO bundled) and the P5B-Plus Vista Edition which are both based on the P965 chipset. DDR2 is supported on all four motherboards at speeds of up to 800MHz.

Typical Asus: no price, no availability – but I think 30 January has a certain ring to it…
