Elitegroup Computer Systems, more commonly known as ECS, has announced the availability of new motherboards for AMD and Intel platforms. The AMD board was revealed at CEBIT but both are only now available in the UK.

The ECS KV2 Extreme supports the new Socket 939 Athlon 64 and Athlon FX CPUs, and is powered by the K8T800 Pro chipset with VT8237 Southbridge.

Features include support for up to 4Gb of dual channel memory, as well as Serial ATA, Firewire and AGP 8x graphics.

ECS is normally known for its relatively straight laced boards but with the KV2 Extreme is an attempt to appeal to the more hardcore overclocking market. The board includes a ‘Cooler Accelerator’, designed to improve the airflow inside the case, enabling more stable overclocking. The KV2 also features Dual LAN ports, and RAID support in 0, 1 or 0+1 configuration.

On the Intel side, ECS has the PF4 Extreme. This is based on the Intel 915P chipset with support for the LGA775 Prescott Pentium 4 CPUs. It support dual-channel DDR2 at 400 or 533MHz, and offers a x16 PCI Express slot. The ICH6 Southbridge supports four SATA ports, eight USB 2.0 ports, and Intel High Definition Audio.

On top of this, ECS has fitted the board with an extra two SATA ports, dual FireWire, and dual-LAN – one of which is runs at Gigabit speeds. The board also features an dual BIOS recovery system.

The AMD Socket 939 supporting ECS KV2 Extreme is available now for around £81 including VAT, while the Intel LGA775 CPU supporting PF4 Extreme will cost around £105 including VAT.
