Dell has accidentally leaked the 'SX2210T' from its support pages and it will be the first mass market capacitive, multi-touch monitor and measure 21.5in in a 16:9 aspect ratio with Full HD friendly 1920 x 1080 native resolution.
The touchscreen is said to be limited to two finger input, so we won't be getting the three and four finger swipe gestures seen on the latest Mac touchpads, but it should still draw a fair number of ooohs and ahhhs if the crowd pleasing pinching and rotating commands are built in. Other specs hold up too with a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 2ms response time, integrated webcam and HDMI/DVI inputs.
Price and availability remain unknown, but the latter surely can't be far away given the support page is already live.
In related news yet more Dell leaks have appeared this time showing an Android-based MID/smartphone with 5in 800 x 480 capacitive, multi-touch screen. Codenamed the 'Streak' it has a 5MP camera with LED flash and looks strong competition for the Nokia N900.
Don't expect to see anything official on this until 2010, but safe to say our interest is piqued.

@Morsch: You could just use a monitor arm and pull it over when required. If you can find a use for it that's worth wiping off the fingerprints after every use.

I can't see a touch monitor on my desk for quite some time. As has been said, fingerprints and smudges would be horrific.

Having a desktop touch screen would require remodeling the whole desktop. I can imagine reaching over to my flat screen every once in a while, but extensive usage isn't really feas... more
