The 16:9 LCD market is taking little time to gather momentum - it offers users higher resolutions at smaller sizes and costs manufacturers less to produce as more screens can be cut from each panel, so anyone surprised in the slightest to see LG hopping aboard... didn't think so.

The 'W2261V' is the company's first 16:9er and its a 22.5in model which offers the same Full HD / 1920 x 1080 native resolution as its competitors but throws in a lightening quick 2ms response time, 300 nits brightness, wide 170 degree viewing angle and huge 30,000:1 contrast ratio as differentiators (though LG is famed for its monstrous contrast ratio claims).

Aside from this, the W2261V wins friends and influences people via swanky 'dew drop' styling, 4:3 aspect ratio compatibility, a dedicated photo viewing mode and a wide array of inputs including HDMI (take note, Apple), DVI-D and D-sub.

No release date or RRP has yet been stamped on the LG W2261V but the South Korean conglomerate is famed for getting its products to market in a snappy fashion so don't expect to wait long. The other beauty of 16:9 is also don't expect to pay much...
