Competition, don't ya just love it...

Hot on the heels of Samsung's industry first DisplayLink enabled 940UX and the FLATRON L206WU announced by LG last week is Asus' turn: the 'VW223B'.

Like LG's offering, the VW223B (thanks to Engadget for the snap) is a 22 incher with a 1680 x 1050 native resolution (likely to be the ceiling - it's the current per-display limit of DisplayLink), 3000:1 contrast ratio, 300cd/m2 brightness and nippy 5ms response time. A standard D-Sub connector is also in the back, but the real attraction is of course the USB connectivity which enables up to six additional LCDs to be daisy chained up with no need for an additional graphics card.

There is no mention of whether the model can automatically configure itself and its conjoined monitors like the L206WU but given the great similarity between them and same basic technology under the hood I'd suspect so. No RRP or release date was hinted at but this is fast becoming a crowded sub-sector so don't expect it to cost greatly more than £200 or take more than two or three months to hit the market.

So that's Samsung, LG and Asus in. Who's next, any bets...?
