CeBIT 2007: Asus' 22in LCD With Integrated 2.1 Speakers

While I'm not entirely sure why anyone who has a desk large enough to take a 22 inch LCD would then want to conserve space with integrated speakers Asus has clearly found a market. It has also made a surprisingly appealing product.

With its piano black finish and touch sensitive buttons, the 'PG221' is a stylish piece of kit and it ticks all the right boxes inside too. For a start there's the 1,680 x 1,050 native resolution, a lightening 2ms response time, high 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 300 cd/m2 brightness.
There's no HDMI but you do get DVI-D, D-Sub, S-Video, composite and component inputs as well as 3.5mm jacks for a mic and headphones. A 1.3MP webcam is built into the top of the bezel too and there's even a USB hub with 3x USB2.0 ports. As for the speakers themselves, they certainly aren't going to wake the neighbours with 2x 5W and 15W from the bass but they should do just fine in smaller rooms.
In typical Asus style the PG221 comes with no pricing or release date information but I suspect it won't set users back more than circa £300. After all, otherwise it would be simpler to just buy those 2.1s separately... but then again that isn't the point. I think.
I'm confused.
