Any chance of a comparison review with 3GS, N900 et al?

WTF. Why is turn by turn navigation US only? What happened to Android being an "open platform"? This is ridiculous.

comment Helmore said on 2nd November 2009

@jopey - That's because Google Navigation currently is a US only Beta and thus not available over here. Just like Google Music search and Google Voice for example. Has little to do with how open Android is.
There's nothing stopping you from putting any other turn by turn navigation software on the device, but they usually cost money to keep up to date.

Must admit as time goes on, especially over the past few weeks, it's getting harder and harder to choose the best handset to commit to for the next year. I was hell bent on getting the HD2, but it's taken so long to get to market since the O2 false start that i'm looking around now and thinking that WM6.5 would actually be a really stupid idea now with WM7 coming in the next 6 months and Android taking off in a big way (at last).

I like the look of HTC HD2 (even with WM6.5), the N900 (nasty resistive screen), the Sony X3/X10 Rachel (looks brilliant but i'm convinced that Sony will find a way to ruin this handset!), and this Moto looks alright if only they'd ditch that awful keyboard & D-pad.

Choices, choices....I think a wise move would be to wait till after Christmas.

To make if even easier on you lifethroughalens, Motorola will also be releasing a version of the Sholes that does not have a slide out keyboard. You will get a better camera and a thinner phone, but it will stay the same for the most part. It will still take a little while before that comes to the market though, just check this little roadmap over here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/14/purported-motorola-roadmap-uncovers-sholes-tablet-motus-and-oth/

@lifethroughalens
UK Google Navigation will be here long before WM7!

comment Gordon said on 2nd November 2009

@lifethroughalens - or until tomorrow at least... *hint*

comment Helmore said on 2nd November 2009

You already have a SE Rachael/Xperia X3/X10? Or what are you hinting at?

comment lifethroughalens said on 2nd November 2009

@ Helmore - thanks for that! I just had a look and I saw something gob-smacking...the Moto Sholes has a Xenon flash listed on that road map. At last something to surpass the K800i at last!

@ravmania - Yep, i'm inclined to agree...maybe even cold fusion :D

@Gordon - Ah, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3 Announcement...please don't screw it up *again* with some nasty last minute proprietary hardware!

"Much like the confusing rebranding strategy that accompanied the Dext ('Cliq' in the US), Droid will be known as ‘Milestone' in Europe."

It's going to be sold under the name "Milestone" here in Canada too for some reason even though we share a continent with the US... I think they think we're Europe Lite? :)
