what's with the 3 HTC handsets at the bottom? Aee they making Moto's handsets or something?

Why is there a picture of a HTC handset at the bottom there?

I've always hated motorola but i am really looking forward to trying the Droid. I've had to abandon my LG renoir as its decided i have too much of a social life and has stopped letting me recieve texts! thinking this would be a much better replacement than my old K810i

Motorola Eris?

comment Mini J said on 29th October 2009

They all carry HTC logos because the Eris is an HTC phone. The 'Droid' brand applies to a range of phones on the Verizon network, nothing to with Motorola. At least that's what I've heard anyway :P

It's not the 'Motorola Droid' line, it's the Verizon Droid line. My guess would be that the Motorla Droid will be launched under a different name when it goes global (ie GSM version).

One fun fact, Verizon actually obtained (payed for) the rights to use the Droid name from Lucas Arts (Star Wars). Motorola is probably not even allowed to use the Droid name on any other handset but the Verizon branded Sholes/Tao.

Any news on a UK release date - another O2 exclusive?!

comment Gordon said on 29th October 2009

yep, updated all. Much appreciated

Very much like the Droid, looking forward to a UK release but please, god of mobile phones, keep O2 as far away from it as possible!

Is Google Navigation confirmed to be launching worldwide at the same time, or will it be US only to start with?

"one of the slimmest full Qwerty keyboard sliders we've seen." Indeed, just what I was about to say.

I'm not sure about the Eris being an evolution of the Hero, it looks more like someone's taken a rolling pin and reshaped a Touch slightly... http://pective.com/m/htc-touch-p3450-elf

Motorola are running things with this device! Hope they get back on the market, i always thought they were cool back in the day

I don't understand why the hell they made the keyboard like that. Most people nowadays are used to having the d-pad on the left of the device as in game controllers, and if they were to have made the d-pad on the left, then the keyboard would have been nicely centered on the device and thus avoided the "G1" style reaching over the device with the right hand... Also would have made it work a lot better for Android games if they had it that way round!

I don't understand the D pad at all - what's the point with a capacitive screen that size. Get rid of the D pad then you can make the keyboard pretty useful for people with big hands.

Any more info on the Eris? It looks very interesting and much better than the Hero as far as aesthetics are concerned.
