"recently passed 100,000 app mark this week"
Remember the .com bubble? Good. Meet me about 5 years from now. Give or take a year.

Microsoft still make the point - in fact I think it was one of the KSPs on their super secret marketing packs that got sent out to stores ahead of Windows 7, which were leaked a few weeks back - that one of Windows' huge advantages is the shear wealth and scale of software that's available for the mighty Windows platform. Whatever you want to do, there are hundreds of ways to do it, Huzaa!

This appears to be a bad thing when applied to a mobile platform... :-/

Now, don't anybody mention fart apps :)

When is someone going to open up a multiplatform mobile appstore?

Ex.

http://iphone.mobileappstore.com

and

http://windows.mobileappstore.com

If a particular manufacturer wanted something they could set up http://samsung.mobileappstore.com

what do you think?

Cheers,

Dean

My concern is actually the rate of expansion and risk for the devs themselves. I have so many reasons for this based on articles I've read over the last few weeks and back to a whole year ago. Unfortunately, it's difficult at the time to realise I should probably be collecting this info somewhere...

Here's a snippet of what's floating in my head:
Mandy's being an idiot: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/oct/28/mandelson-date-blocking-filesharers-connections
The music industry isn't suffering (last couple of paragraphs): http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/news/2009/01/16/95--Music-Downloads-Illegal--Industry-Grows-Nevertheless/p1
Numbers are being manipulated: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/351331/how-uk-government-spun-136-people-into-7m-illegal-file-sharers
Apps devs think they're losing out due to piracy: http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Independent_iPhone_Apps_Suffer_80_pct_Piracy_Rate/551-107122-580.html
Piracy is hardly worth the equation: http://2dboy.com/2008/11/13/90/
The App Store is a dangerous place: http://gizmodo.com/5378390/the-app-store-effect-are-iphone-apps-headed-for-oblivion

Errr... I think that's most of them. Just what sprang to mind at the moment. Who knows what else my subconscious might hold ;)
Anyway, I feel those are some things which have common threads between them. It probably won't be clear or even apparent, but months of contemplation help.

Also sorry if I gave anyone a headache with all the reading :P.

Wohoo, I can get Bubble Wrap for my Satio! I almost don't regret buying it. Almost. I think that might also partly explain why Symbian is still on top: Morons like me that don't realise just how much of a difference a sloppy OS can make.

I don't consider Symbian sloppy at all - Android may be more promising, but I certainly wouldn't swap my Samsung for an iPhone. This App store is good news; it will be very helpful to have all the apps in one place regardless of whether you're using a Nokia, Sammy etc. About time.

Dean Collins: All three of those links go to the same page which, if I'm honest, looks very spammy.
