New Samsung & Motorola Android Handsets Unveiled

If there were any doubt Android is not only gaining momentum, but also becoming the potential saviour for struggling handset manufacturers then this should remove it.
Both Samsung and Motorola have this week seen new Android handsets make an appearance on the Web and while the two firms currently have vastly differing fortunes, the new models each show considerable promise.

Samsung first and it has gotten official with the 'Spica', a more affordable version of the Galaxy. Specs are good with a rocket sled 800MHz CPU, 3.2in AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, WiFi, GPS, 3G, microSD, a large 1500 mAh battery, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB charging and wide codec support. The camera does drop down to 3.2MP, but given that megapixels have virtually nothing to do with image quality - certainly on mobile phone sensors - that really doesn't matter.
We're awaiting info on UK pricing and availability, but Russia will get it next month for roughly £290 sim free. Should it translate similarly on these shores then the Spica may well have just undercut its bigger brother.

Meanwhile Motorola is trying to build momentum following the Dext with its second Android handset, the 'Droid' (see what it did there?). The Droid hasn't been officially announced, but its product page was 'accidentally' published (read: viral marketing) on the Motorola site and BGR managed to take an image grab.
What we learn is the Droid will be a slim Qwerty slider with a huge 3.7in touchscreen display that sports a strange 854 x 480 resolution, 3G, WiFi, GPS, a 5MP camera, 1400mAh battery, 550MHz CPU, full HTML5 browser, micro USB charging and again wide codec support.
Could Android 2.0 also have its debut on these models? If so, hubba hubba...
