Following news of the Booklet 3G (its first netbook], the sexy and affordable 5230 touchscreen handset and Nokia Monkey mobile financial services, the Finns have now gone and unveiled the previously leaked N900 as well. Yes, it's every bit the monster rumours said it would be.

Officially classed as an Internet Tablet, rather than a smartphone, the Nokia N900 throws the kitchen sink at features and functionality with a huge WVGA touchscreen, HSPA and WiFi, 32GB of storage (expandable to 48GB via a microSD card), a 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and fast ARM Cortex-A8 processor (the same chipset the Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS utilise). On top of this is full Adobe Flash 9.4 support and it all runs on a Maemo Linux-based OS. Furthermore, with 1GB of application memory and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration Nokia claims N900 will happily multitask. "Switching between applications is simple, as all running content is constantly available through the dashboard," it states, while "the panoramic homescreen can be fully personalized with favorite shortcuts, widgets and applications."
Despite all this, a few details are still missing at present: size and weight are obviously major considerations and so too is battery life. I'm chasing these up. As for real world availability, the Nokia N900 will launch as soon as October with a sim free price of 500 euros (£440). As yet no telco partners have been announced or subsidised pricing, but that may change soon.
A genuine iPhone challenger? Depending on the size and weight, potentially. Perhaps more to the point, it's a highly impressive follow up to the N810...

@Chaos: Yep, fair enuff :) In fact, (if JonHend's dimensions are correct) this thing actually has a somewhat smaller footprint than the HTC Leo, albeit a lot thicker.
