Palm Pre Set for UK Launch Next Week Comments

Have looked at the TR homepage several times every day for 6 months waiting for this news, and I'm sure I'm not completely alone!

Right now I feel like Cartman in South Park episode Go God Go. I can't sleep so I am searching the web for time travel and cryogenics!

@ falcomomo - Me too! I just hope to Christ O2 don't put stupidly high tariffs on it! Once they sort out Synergy properly, it'll be an absolute dream.
I'm on T-Mobile at present as I get 50% off, but would change to O2 if they got the Pre as I also know someone who could get me 30% off contracts with them.
I have been waiting months for the Pre...Come on Palm - Give us a date!

Its a great shame its on O2. It would have been good competition for the iphone. I imagine O2 will will focus on the handset that makes them the most money and that's probably the iphone. Vodafone or three should have got this. I have never understood why apple have gone for exclusive deals with the telcos.

If 3 had got this phone I would have been drooling all the way till launch. Since O2 holds the exclusivity to the Pre, they won't seriously undercut the iPhone. Which immediately makes it unaffordable for me. I know that even though no prices have been listed.

Hopefully the build run for the UK units will produce sturdier PREs then those found in the US. The Palm forums are full of Users with creaky, loose and cracking PREs.

No Pre for me then i guess. Fingers crossed the Samsung Android phone will be available on all networks.

I'm confused as to why Palm would allow O2 the exclusivity. I would have thought that they would have been better on a different network to the iPhone. I agree with Dylantherabbit, I would have thought O2 pushing the iPhone would make the company more money so why push the Pre at all?

O2 really were the worst network they could have brought it to and sureley it'll just be the same tarrifs as the iPhone, but maybe less charge for the handset?!

Very smart move by o2. Not such a smart move for the consumer though as this will inevitably lead to less competition and artificially higher prices in the short term.

This device is being sold on it's ability to seamlessly combine your networking resources, so it makes perfect sense to me to be on the best and fastest network...IMO.

I think O2 may well pitch this as a cheap iPhone to flesh out their range of flagship handsets. Yes it may cannibalise sales of the cheaper iPhones but then they're probably not making so much on those anyway. One thing's for sure, O2 are really taking it to the other networks at the moment - parent Telefonica is obviously very serious about remaining the UK's biggest network by number of subscribers. I think this is a good thing for all of us, provided that coverage/quality improve, too.

palm has the synergy that no other phones currently have, but htc hero is excellent as well ? which one ?

would have to say that it wants to be going to the network that will market it the best; speed can be increased any time. Hopefully it will appeal to the masses of iPhone worshippers and the the undecideds, that way the app catalog will grow quicker.

Also...across the pond they have been complaining of a slightly cramped keyboard; what are the chances they will employ an iPhone/Android style letter correction??
