Unlocked iPhone 3GS Hits Pre-order, Samsung Jet Takes Off

iPhone 3GS sales (yep, '3G S' has been dropped/squashed now) continue to rocket along after topping one million units in just its first three days, but could this spark a second unit bump...?
Eagle eyed reader Martyn has spotted Play.com has now posted a listing for an "Apple iPhone 3G S 32GB Sim Free / Unlocked 3.0 Megapixel Mobile Phone". The price: a mammoth £899 (you do get free delivery!).

Naturally the big deal here is whether the handset is 'unlocked' or carrier free from the point of manufacture since that makes a huge difference with regards to future firmware updates. If it is then Play.com has just scored a major win, if not then it is wading into some pretty murky territory with regards to warranties and Apple raining down legal retribution.
We hope to hear more soon.
In related pre-order news Samsung has made the simply mind blowing claim that it has already taken two million pre-orders for the Jet (I did say the smartphone market was expanding). This 800MHz handset has made a lot of its potential speed on tap, but I have to say I hope the software on the unit I've tried was a long way from finished as I must warn it proved a distinctly underwhelming experience.

Unoptimised graphics drivers meant photo scrolling was poor, one finger zoom system clunky, the custom OS limited and the resistive touchscreen unresponsive. I'll hold my hands up if the retail version is the bee's knees but for now I have two million new worries...
