Samsung i8910 HD Launches With Orange

While everyone has become hugely excited about Samsung's I7500 Android phone there's another even more impressive one hurtling towards us and it launches today...
The Samsung 'i8910 HD' - which wisely decided to drop the Omnia association just last month - has now gone on sale through Orange and it carries easily the most powerful feature set of any handset to date.

Top of the list is a 3.7in 16:9 AMOLED 360 x 640 capacitive touchscreen which should shock and awe even without multi-touch. This is backed up by an eight megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Shot and Panorama Shot plus High Definition 720p video recording at 24fps. We're just getting started however as there's HSUPA, WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, 8GB of native flash memory along with a 32GB compatible microSD card slot, an FM tuner, digital compass, accelerometer, proximity sensor and light sensor.
We're still going... DivX/Xvid, H.264, WMV, Mpeg4 and Real Video playback, MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC_, WMA and Real Audio playback, dual stereo speakers with DNSe 2.0 and a Symbian S60 5.0 backbone with Document Viewer, E-Dictionary, Biz Card Recognition, Podcasting, 3D Games, app downloads, Push Email (MS Exchange) and Smart Search. Finally there's a humongous 1500 mAh battery and tidy dimensions of 123 x 58 x 12.9mm though given the size of the display it is a smidgen heavier than its rivals at 144g.
Orange price plans can subsidise the i8910 HD down to just £97.50 on a high end two year contract, though more typical packages (18 months, £30+ per month) lead to a handset cost of circa £200 which means it is in iPhone territory and above.
The cautious amongst you may still want to wait and try the 6 June announced Palm Pre or see what Apple has up its sleeve but the i8910 HD could well cause them some sleepless nights...

@Cory - that's a dangerous time to make assessments ;) Fingers crossed it still holds up after a week or two. It's an exciting handset.
