Trusted Reviews. You were my one oasis of peace and tranquillity away from this damn story. This wild speculation has garnered dozens of stories on every other site I visit; I truly believed that you wouldn't go here.

Please stop treading into this territory, Apple rumours have their place on the interweb and it isn't on a great, respectable, site like this.

Needless to say, I believe this hyperbole to have absolutely *no* basis in reality. I'm a big Apple fanboy, and I would love to see an iTablet; that is, a larger iTablet than what the iPod Touch already is, but it is not happening... Not yet at least...

As for the iPhone nano? Just... No. Answer me "Why?" Apple would do this. I'm still to read a good, valid reason.

ipod touch can make voip calls over wifi once you have the jailbroken apps, it seems if the rumour even became true, apple was just making it official - I would see the network big 4 not very happy...

cheap iphone means more people can afford it thus increase user base & increase apple market share.. perfect economy solution. Bring it on! we like it cheap..

at the same time, I wouldn't mind a premium itablet, bringing touch netbook to the dying market, a new era... just like how iphone has changed the mobile market.

Budget iPhone? That's a reason why customers want it, I asked for a reason why Apple would do this; it’s not like they’re having trouble shifting the current model! A budget iPhone makes no sense to them, what would be cut back for this "nano"? A smaller device? That would ruin compatibility with all of the apps available. Cutting back on GPS/wi-fi/3g/camera? Again, would ruin compatibility with a lot of apps. One of the huge selling points of the app store is that no extra work is required from a developer to make an app work on any device running the iPhone OS. I understand that this may not always be the case as the hardware/OS evolves, but we're still early on in the iPhone's life.

The iPod was split into separate models because iTunes was the key sell – access to the largest library of digital music, TV shows, and movies, the easy syncing with any computer - the hardware that accessed it was, to a degree, irrelevant. With the iPhone, it’s the OS and the App Store that sell the device, any changes to the iPhone, outside of the aesthetical, would create multiple formats; screen sizes, resolutions, etc.

All I'm saying is exactly the kind of thing that the people who call themselves Analysts should be saying, instead of spouting out every excitable rumor that they dream of.
I'm not an analyst, I just have a logical head for business and keep my eyes on the market.

I would say that in the long term they need to lower the entry price to gain more customers but then the price of the cheapest (unibody) macbooks indicates that they really don't. i'm sure apple would be happy to keep selling a (relatively) small number of iphones to the well heeled at their current margins.
