You'd think with all the good stuff emerging since iPhone OS 3.0 was announced that Apple would've marketed them at the official event! Next up: voice control.

Emerging at ars technica are reports that evidence has been discovered of voice recognition capabilities in the third generation firmware. In fact, we're not just talking your usual voice dialling, but a system where fully handset operation could be controlled by the power of your dulcet tones.

Codenamed 'Jibbler' it is believed to be an enhancement to the SpringBoard application and work like the newly added Spotlight search to help users find what they're looking for fast. The theory is this functionality can be incorporated into an iPhone headset - triggered perhaps by holding down the mic clicker? - and reduce the need to pull the handset from your pocket when out and about.

Of course all this leads to worries of yet more proprietary earphone technology as seen with the controversial (and daft) new iPod shuffle. Whether this would then add functionality such as the reading back of song titles, artists, albums etc is unknown but I doubt Apple developed this tech just to use it in a single budget MP3 player.

iPhone OS 3.0 you may just be more exciting than any new iPhone(s) Apple announces at WWDC 2009...
