Play.com Begins Selling iPhone 3G Unlocked

Hmmm - I thought they were located on the Channel Islands (Jersey), and that their prices always included VAT. Anyway, I've used them for nearly 9 years now, and not had any problems, and no additional taxes.

As mentioned by several others above, Play.com are located in Jersey. All VAT, shipping etc are included. They benefit from EU law that allows retailers from outside the EU to sell items under the value of £18 VAT free to customers within the EU, which is why you never/rarely see anything for sale between £18 and £20. Items > £18 already have VAT included so there are never any customs fees to pay.

Regarding living anywhere else in the EU, Play won't ship electronics, gadgets etc outside the UK. I live in Ireland and it's a complete pain - as is being forced to pay in euro rather than sterling, at Play's ludicrous exchange rate.

Sorry. Yes ofcause I mean Jersey. My mistake. About them not selling much above the amount of £18 and £20 is not correct. And by the way the law about customs is not the same all everywhere. For instance in Denmark we have a limit of £9 about 80Dkr. and the custom fee is about £20 and on top of that you can add our 25% VAT. We have bought from them a couple of times and by luck, the first one didnt get cought in customs, and we didnt know Jersey was not member of the EU? second packet was a triple DVD pack that did get cought in customs and by the time we recieved it it would have been cheaper to buy it right here.... All in all I just think they should mention it either when you logon to the site on at least when you try to pay??
