Play.com Begins Selling iPhone 3G Unlocked

Legally unlocked iPhones have been available in a wide range of international countries but for the first time they're now launching in the UK too...
In yet another sign that Apple is looking to get rid of excess stock before a third generation announcement Play.com has begun shipping network independent 8GB and 16GB iPhones 3Gs with immediate effect.
To calm suspicious customers Play states on its listings "This is a genuine Sim Free mobile phone and therefore unlocked to all UK networks. It is not unlocked from a UK or European network and is available due to EU legislation ensuring the sale of sim free mobile phones. Comes with a full manufacturer warranty."

Of course completely unsubsidised the iPhones themselves aren't cheap with the 8GB edition a whopping £549.99 and the 16GBer a head spinning £599.99 (allegedly £50 off its hither to unknown £649.99 'RRP'). White girly versions don't appear to be offered but you will be glad to know there's free delivery!
Now there's no point me pointing out the good/bad aspects to our iPhone 3G review - you'll already know if you desperately crave/need to violently attack one. Just be wary that it's virtually certain a third generation model with improved camera, capacity, battery life and probably a lot more will be unveiled in June/July so don't come bleating to me if you regret it later...
