Sling Media has long been touting its highly successful SlingPlayer on a whole range of mobile devices, but no platform has been left in limbo for quite so long as BlackBerry...

Support was first announced back at CES in January (yes, we'll be there in 2009 too) but the first publicly available beta is only now being made available for 30 December. Still, what's a year between friends?!

For those not in the know, much like SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian, the software will allow RIM fans to access and control content from their home Slingbox on their swanky smartphones. Sadly however the most potentially exciting BlackBerry for this tech, the [linkout: Storm], is not on the approved list with the Bold, 8820, Curve 8320, Pearl Flip 8220 and Pearl 8120 all beating it out the gate.

It is worth pointing out at this stage Sling Media strongly recommends testers use a 3G or WiFi connection for a smooth experience. On the upside that does mean the Storm is likely to be added at some point but older BlackBerrys will be off the menu as RIM was fairly late in applying both these technologies to its handsets.

Still, fans of TV anywhere with eligible Canadian phones brace yourselves, there's less than two weeks to go...
