Opening the account this week was a surprisingly controversial product, the Booken Cybook Gen 3. As a direct rival to the e-ink powered Sony PRS-505 e-book reader that we finally got a chance to look at a few weeks ago, it faces some stiff opposition and that fact lead to some healthy debate in our comments section. As is often the case, no absolute winner was decided upon among our readership but from our point of view the Sony reader came up trumps, just.

As though we were deliberately trying to develop a theme this week, we followed up one surprisingly controversial product with another that had great potential to be - Apple's new MacBook. With it's striking new Aluminium body, single-piece glossy screen and bezel, and the new multi-touch touchpad, there is plenty to set this latest model apart from its predecessors; with an initial exclusive deal on nVidia's integrated graphics chipset, the 9400M, it's one step ahead of the Windows competition as well. As always, though, you pay a premium for all that goodness and that will always be enough to put many people off.

Breaking up any notion of the aforementioned theme, James Morris took a look at the new TomTom Go 530 Traffic sat-nav, which is fairly universally accepted as being a superb device. It has nice a large 4.3inch LCD screen but it's standout feature is the new IQ system that uses previous traffic information to suggest the best route in real world situations. Unfortunately with a price of around £200, you certainly pay for all these features and many people will still be quite happy with a simpler, cheaper version.

What better way to end the week than with a right ol' lambasting? The Roberts Stream WM-202 is a perfectly adequate DAB, Internet, and FM radio with music streaming capabilities that even sounds pretty decent too. However, it is so badly designed we felt we couldn't look past it to recommend it on its technical merits. Especially as the same functionality can be had in much nicer to use devices that cost near enough the same.
