Here are a couple of downers to get the week off to a miserable start...

Happy rumours began over the weekend that Apple was about to reintroduce Home Activation for its iPhone 3G handset as well as push out a much requested 32GB edition with the run-up to Christmas (apparently?) already fast approaching.

Sadly the generally reliable BGR has immediately shot these titbits down saying it has a tip from an Apple retail store employee saying while Home Activation may return potential customers will only use it to pre-arrange their contracts prior to purchase and a trip to the retail store to get them up and running is still required. As for the 32GB iPhone: it's a no-no, at least - I suspect - until a 64GB iPod touch is doing the rounds.

Also not making for particularly smiley reading is news that Apple "has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter's metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock." The company confirms "We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported."

Consequently a mass recall has been requested for adaptors sold in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico and South American countries of Columbia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica and Panama. Going to be painful Apple. As for the good old UK, our overcharged butts escape since we use our nice chunky, three pronged, you're-He-Man-if-you-can-snap-them plugs.

Hooray for small victories...
