I didn't think it would take long...

Just five days after the Touch HD was leaked HTC has bitten the bullet and formerly announced the impressive looking handset to the world.

The good news doesn't stop there either since the Touch HD does indeed live up to all the leaked info meaning it will sport a WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) touch and widescreen display, a five megapixel camera, WiFi, aGPS, a fast 528MHz Qualcomm 7201A processor, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a microSD/SDHC expansion slot, large 1350mAH battery and that all important 3.5mm headset jack.

Even dimensions are good with the Touch HD measuring just 115 x 62.8 x 12mm though it is a little on the heavy side at 146.4g. There are a few niggles however: the camera lacks flash making it pretty much useless indoors, there is no significant native memory (only 512MB flash shared with the OS) and Windows Mobile 6.1 lurking behind that pretty TouchFLO wallpapering.

That said, we're still excited.

In related news HTC has also come clean about two other entry level handsets: the 'Touch 3G' and 'Viva' with the former looking like a proper version of the leaked Opal (HSDPA, 3.2MP camera, aGPS, microSD, 2.8in QVGA LCD) and the latter appealing to those on a budget by matching it apart from its absence of 3G.

The Touch HD will appear in the frustratingly inexact time frame of 'Q4' while the Touch 3G and Viva will launch in October.

Fingers crossed for Android versions...

Whats the Viva? Different version of the Touch 3G or something else?

I view it as an advantage that these are based on WM - it means they have features.
