Are we surprised? Not in the slightest...

Keen to right its financial woes pinky money-is-good paper the Financial Times claims Sony Ericsson is about to unveil an unlimited music downloading service similar to the Comes With Music system recently introduced by industry leader Nokia.

The broadsheet says the handset maker has been in discussions with major music labels about the idea for a number of months and an announcement could be expected before the end of September. Funnily enough, Sony Ericsson wasn't keen to spoil its big surprise by commenting to the FT on the story one way or the other.

In related news, SE has also pushed out a new jack of all trades slider handset: the 'G705'. Sporting a 2.4in QVGA screen, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, aGPS and a 3.2MP camera suggests this handset means big business in the upper midrange sector while the inclusion of an 'HTML browser' with uploading ability enhances its credentials even further.

Interestingly, a second version - the 'G705u' will also appear with UMA technology (the first from Sony Ericsson) which enables the handset to seamlessly switch between GSM and WiFi connections while the user remains happily oblivious (in theory).

The G705 and G705u will hit sometime in Q4 with the latter exclusive to Orange.

Very nice, though I remain unconvinced about the need for mouse-style pointers on mobile phone interfaces...
