Nokia Unveils 5MP, GPS Handset & Support Act

Time was sticking five megapixels and GPS into a mobile phone was a stunning achievement, now it's merely expected...

Still Nokia has done a nice job with its latest high end handset: the 'N85' since the 5MP camera in question is equipped with Carl Zeiss optics and geotagging while the GPS uses the ever useful Nokia maps.
Away from these two headlining features, the N85 is a decent looking model too thanks to its large 2.6in AMOLED screen and minimalistic styling. Being a part of the N Series, N-Gage support is in there too along with 10 pre-loaded demo titles and a choice of one free title. Naturally, HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth are in the mix as well while an FM tuner appears and Nokia seems to be learning its multimedia lessons having included a 3.5mm headphone jack and managing up to an impressive 28 hours continuous music playback.

Ably backing up this A lister is the 'N79', which also manages to squish in a five megapixel Zeissian camera, GPS, WiFi, 3G, an FM radio and 3.5mm headphone jack. In fact, other than the slightly reduced 24 hours continuous music playback, it is hard to see specs wise where the two models differ other than the Xpress-on covers which may/should not be to your taste.
Interestingly, both models forgo native storage in favour of bundling 8GB and 4GB microSD cards with the N85 and N79 respectively.
The duo will hit the UK next month with unsubsidised pricing of £279 (N79) and £359 (N85). Quite why you go down that route however when networks will surely be offering this duo for next to nothing on a decent contract is beyond me.

I'm still shocked that it's not been picked up on or reported anywhere, but WinAmp has offered iPod synching for quite a while now! At least a year!

this is a good combination of a phone and camera in one. with 5MP it can serve as a personal camera at the same time a mobile phone. this is all you need to carry around.

Ooh, I'm tempted, there really isn't anything out there that matches the iphone's UI and web browsing - but it's the total cost and itunes lock-in.
