While it may be only the second most anticipated mobile phone of the year the long term significance of the HTC Dream is likely to be far greater than the tweaks made for the iPhone 3G...

The wait looks close than an end too as the handset has just passed through that US technological peep hole also known as the FCC. Having attained the necessary approval, we come away learning a number of interesting new things.

Namely we've got the nice dissection below for you and news that it will be part of the 'DREA100 series' which certainly indicates it will be just the first of many devices in a new range. 802.11b/g WiFi is also on the confirmed list (with WPA/WPA2 security) while HTC is indeed the manufacturer and - whether it is rebranded by networks or not - 'Dream' is the model's official title (no pressure on Android there then!).

Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR for wireless music streaming comes through too along with GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/1900 and WCDMA 1700 bands meaning lovely jubbly 3G is aboard and I think we can take it as read that a physical sliding Qwerty keyboard and touchscreen interface are core features now following this blurry/Darth Vader narrated video.

Lastly it had be claimed that FCC approval was the sole barrier to T-Mobile and HTC unveiling the Dream in September so let's now happily sit back and hope and pray mobile OS X is about to get a decent rival at long last...
