20 Countries Get iPhone 3G On 22 August

While the launch was shambolic the iPhone 3G still managed to ship more than one million units in its opening weekend and now we know when 20 more countries will be able to get their hands on the year's most hotly disputed handset.
22 August has been confirmed by Apple as the date when (*deep breath*) Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, Uruguay, India, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Romania, the Philippines, Hungary, Singapore and four so far unnamed others will be able to (with luck) snap up the model.

Interestingly, this still only brings the iPhone 3G to a total of 45 countries to date which remains a long way from the excruciatingly drawn out 70 promised by Steve Jobs at the WWDC. In addition, given these countries are considerably less wealthy than those who were part of the first wave of releases (which included the UK, US, Germany, France, Japan, etc) sales probably won't spike as much this time around but they will certainly add further impetus for a phone which remains hard to come by almost everywhere.
Not bad for a handset which ultimately didn't quite live up to its billing...
