It may have looked too good to be true, but - praise be - it wasn't...
Leaked last week the Samsung 'i8510' is the most powerful multimedia handset to date. Just get a load of this:
The S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 based handset will come with no less than an eight megapixel camera equipped with autofocus and dual LED flash, smile shot, blink shot & face recognition. Throw on top of that 7.2Mbit HSDPA and 120 frames per second video recording in QVGA. A-GPS makes an appearance too along with WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and an FM tuner.

Throwing down the gauntlet to Apple, the i8510 will also have an accelerometer, be available in 8GB or 16GB editions and have a microSD expansion slot, plus flush 3.5mm headphone jack (that's apparently a feature these days) and multimedia player capable of DivX, WMV, Real Player and Mpeg4 video playback. External speakers also have DNSe 2.0 support and fire out 3D surround sound.
Does the battery take a hit? Not with a quoted talk time of up to 510 minutes or 310 hours on standby (no doubt with WiFi & Bluetooth off). Finally with dimensions of 106.5 x 53.9 x 16.9mm it may not be the slimmest phone in the world, but it certainly isn't the fattest.
So does the i850 fall down in anyway? That depends on your perspective since a touchscreen is off the menu and all control is conducted via the physical slide out keypad. I'd care, but many of you won't. As ever Samsung also has a battle to get the UI as intuitive as possible.
Most surprising of all however is Samsung plans on getting stock of the i850 into our shop shelves by August. Specific telco details and subsidised pricing info is currently unknown, but if the iPhone 3G doesn't tickle you then this certainly should...
Update: Oh dear me, it's going to be called the 'INNOV8' - so there's another downside for you...
Update 2: Good news fellow haters of low brow text-speak product naming: the i8510 will be just that in the UK, no 'Innov8' branding here. Yep, I'm feeling a sweet sense of relief too.

I'm really liking the way Samsung are going here. They bring out the Omnia to kill the iPhone and now this to kill the N96. Both are good handsets by all accounts as well. ... more
