You know when your mum/auntie/uncle/grandfather says they just can't get the hang of text messaging and T9? Well, here's your answer...

Primarily targeted at the "young consumer", LG's KS360 is also likely to go down a storm with technophobic relatives as it features a decent midrange feature set plus a sliding Qwerty keyboard with chunky keys and automatic landscape screen rotation.

So what are those specs? A nice 2.4in QVGA screen with touchscreen dialling, a 2MP fixed focus camera, MP3, AAC and Mpeg4 multimedia playback, Bluetooth 2.0 for those car kits, a microSD expansion slot, SMS, MMS, Instant Messaging and Email support and reasonably portable dimensions of 101..5 x 51.6 x 16.8mm.

Limits? No 3G or GPS and 15MB of inbuilt memory (you'll be needing that microSD card) and a WAP 2.0 browser. Yes, this is very much a messagers (it's not a word, but it should be) phone only.

"We recognise that manufacturers need to develop a variety of handsets that cater for different segments of the market," said LG Head of Mobile Marketing, Jeremy Newing. "By offering a whole range of handsets - whether it's premium or prepay, a camera or music device, for example - we're giving consumers the choice to purchase a phone that's right for them."

Titanium and bright blue, white and soft pink, black and red and black and silver finishes are available and are as remarkable for their respectable lack of poncy marketing adjectives as anything else.

Available from August on pre-pay and contract, the KS360 shouldn't be a strain on anyone's pocket, but just watch it doesn't encourage Auntie Ethel to start spamming you with text speak:
