HTC Touch Pro Sim Free Priced & Dated

The only thing in the iPhone which is even vaguely revolutionary is the multitouch screen, and yet that is under utilised.

Whilst the Diamond/Raphael/Titanium(yet to be announced) and the X1, are hardly revolutionary, they at least use cutting edge technology. (Namely the full speed HSDPA, fast processors rather than the underclocked Samsung processor in the original iPhone, VGA screens - and in the case of the X1, WVGA) And, they're not marketed with such blatant lies as "Revolutionary".

Realise I am late for this debate so if everybody has already gone home I am not going to upset anybody - for a change!

The beauty, however, of being late is I have read the review by Jonathan Bray of the new Nokia E71 which gets straight 10's. So my point is who says this is a battle for our cash between the latest iphone (with 3g believe it or not!) or the latest WM HTC phone.

In terms of overall quality, up to date functionality & battery life etc... the Nokia & their Symbian OS knock those two into a tin hat.

I know that cos all our mates use a Nokia we are keen to show off the latest something or other but why not ask yourself they they have a Nokia.

Upgrading from my HTC TYTN II in September & think I might give that E71 a go as I don't think I can handle a super fast 3g iphone when I have only been used to HSDPA!

Glad to get that off my chest & glad, probably, that nobody is out there anymore anyway!

To me, the advantage of the touch screen over non-touch screen devices is too great to lose.
Add to that the fact that I don't think the S60 devices have anywhere near the kind of mod-ability I so love about WM, and the fact that the S60 UI is infuriating if you're used to WM, and the Nokia offerings become less popular.

Also, since things like the Touch Pro will be on all the major operators, whereas the E71 may not be, the Touch Pro becomes attractive price wise as well.

Also, I'm fairly sure the TyTN II had HSDPA (and, I think higher speed than the iPhones)!

I have some comments I'd like to share. Let me start with the iPhone. I am a long standing Mac user and would not be parted with my Mac. That said the iPhone just doesn't cut it. On the plus side it is in my opinion the VERY best touch interface and works smoothly and intuitively and its design is as always second to none.

That said everything is locked! You can't edit or save attachments! You can't even exchange files between your iPhone and your Mac unless you pay to use mobile me - incidentally I have an account and it isn't delivering on its promises at present. You can't send business cards via blue tooth or receive them. The GPS is slow and clumsy. It doesn't support all blue tooth devices. The camera has no flash or auto focus and the picture quality is poor. Lastly you can only add applications via iTunes. It is with a pain in my heart that I have to admit the iPhone does not live up to its hype. As a personal phone it works well but for a business user such as me it simply is unworkable.

As I said I have used both the HTC Diamond and the iPhone 3G. And in conclusion would say that the HTC is not as bad as some of the reviews make out and the iPhone is not worthy of the hype and attention it has created. As for me I have just purchased a HTC Touch Pro and although it has its issues what it does it does well. Internet and the opera browser are great and the interface is not so slow as to annoy me – a good phone but if Apple got its act together I’d rather have an iPhone.
