O2 Confirms iPhone 3G PAYG Pricing

I said O2 execs had been dithering about its iPhone 3G PAYG plans...
Thankfully then news is breaking that, despite having early confirmation from company sources last week, the network has come up with an altogether more pleasing proposition following strong criticism to its initial plans.

Consequently, an 8GB iPhone 3G on PAYG will set you back £299.99 instead of £350 and the 16GB will come in at £350 (down almost £100). As I revealed to you, the handsets are not scheduled to go on sale on 11 July like the contract-bound iPhones and O2 only describes them as "coming soon".
One further pleasant bonus - which may make up for the phones still being locked to O2 - is all iPhone 3G PAYG customers will get free unlimited browsing and WiFi for the first six months. At the end of this period these services can be continued for an additional £10pm fee with any PAYG package.
In related news, O2 (presumably with the blessing of Apple) is abandoning the Cupertino based company's approach of a 6.02pm launch time in favour of a far more sensible early morning 7am start. Customers also looking to minimise their time in store can get their credit checks and contractual details out the way from 1 July theoretically meaning a walk in/walk out experience on the 11th.
Theoretically...
Update: O2 has now removed the pricing from the iPhone 3G PAYG page. What now? Was the response to the new figures too good? I told you there was a lot of indecision going on... (but expect those figures to stick).

Agreed - £350 was pretty much the point at which I'd be willing to buy one on PAYG.
I wonder how many PAYG ones will end up hacked onto T-Mob or Vodafone? :)

Given the 6-month unlimited data package, I'm not sure many will - at least not immediately. I mean, if you stay on O2 PAYG you're getting all those WiFi hotspots and Vis... more

hmm... now suddenly the 3G iphone is starting to look mighty affordable on PAYG - put into consideration, it's about the same price as the 32GB ipod touch.
