Remember the iFund? It is the $100m pot provided by venture capitalists Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers to motivate materialistic iPhone App Store programmers. Well, its first lucky winners have been revealed...

First to cash in is a company called Pelago which has developed 'Whrrl' an application which is designed to personalise the business searches carried out on the handset's native Google Maps tool. It works by allowing users to filter their results for searches such as 'Bar', 'Restaurant', 'Hotel', etc in any particular area to those recommended by friends or specific sites. It also allows users to recommend establishments they have attended. Sounds good to me.

Second up is the rather self explanatorily-named 'iControl' a nifty app which enables the iPhone to be used to control (potentially) any device with a remote control. This includes, consumer electronics like TVs and iPod docks, household goods such as air conditioners and lighting and even garage doors. Expect there to be hijinks-a-plenty when iPhoner owners visit friends' homes with this one.

KPCB also says has made an offer to a third company but cannot reveal details until a deal has been brokered while up to 10 more are under close scrutiny. Expect further revelations come Steve Jobs' heavily anticipated 9 June opening WWDC keynote.

Tensions' rising...
