Palm needs a miracle right now and could the impending Treo 850 be it?

With the first snaps leaked towards the end of last week BGR has followed up its scoop with a smash and grab to attain the full specs.

According to the phone obsessed site, what we'll be presented with is a 133 x 60 x 14mm device that not only makes the jump to a Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system but also drops its clunky proprietary power/sync adaptor for the increasingly industry-standard microUSB.

Catching the headlines too are the adoption of WiFi (b/g), HSDPA with support for up to 3.6Mbit, a 320 x 320 pixel LCD and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR with A2DP. Less impressive are the 2MP camera and 256MB of NAND flash onboard (just 175MB is available to the end user) but they are countered by a decent 1500mAh battery and a microSD slot - though GPS would have been nice.

BGR claims what is here could still be subject to change but most of it is likely to be locked down at this point. Sadly no release timeframe has been suggested yet, but with a spec list so quickly joining these prototype shots already doing the rounds this one is looking good to go. Against that of course is the company's miserable launch record, so a few more prayers may yet need to be whispered by the remaining Palm aficionados out there...

...both of you.
