Sometimes the simplest things can prove manna from Heaven...

In this latest case is 'TouchBrowser' from Makayama - a simple full page rendering web browser for Windows Mobile users which brings a host of long overdue improvements.

Keymost among these is 'iPhone-style Internet browsing' which offers the much vaunted iPhone ability to move around a web page simply by dragging a finger. It sounds basic, but even the upgraded IE in Windows Mobile 6.1 has curiously left this out.

Next up are smart menus which bring up finger friendly shortcuts such as 'Back', 'Google Search', 'Enter URL' and 'Close Program' (sic). Other notables are the ability to switch between desktop and mobile page layouts at the touch of a button and a greatly enlarged keypad which means you can sheathe your stylus. If there are faults to be picked the absence of tabs and Java functionality are rare ticks in the negative column.

Makayama has released a video of TouchBrowser in action and if this tickles your fancy then you'll be pleased at the €11.95 asking price.

Ultimately, the worst thing I can find to say about TouchBrowser is at the end of its finger friendly experience you'll get dumped back into Windows Mobile. Sorry about that...
