When it rains it pours...

24 hours after Nokia willingly admitted that its mysterious iPhone clone would be called the 'Tube' - hinting at all kinds of mobile TV goodness - SymbianFreak.com has managed to snag the specs as well as a hands on.

Initial impressions however seem mixed with the handset not expected to be part of Nokia's flagship N Series while the screen is smaller than the iPhone's 3.5 incher, though it will have a 16:9 aspect ratio which is perfect for watching widescreen video and be "larger than 3in". Furthermore, the camera is described as "decent... but still not as good as on the latest Nseries (sic) devices" while the touchscreen has tactility feedback but is apparently no match for multi-touch (there's even a stylus ominously packed).

On the plus side, HSDPA and WiFi are in there along with GPS (which is increasingly looking like a 3G iPhone omission).

Perhaps the biggest problem the Tube faces however are claims that it will not see the light of day until Q1 2009 putting it - quite literally - years behind the competition.

Yep, we're beginning to lose interest too...

Update: Looks like the Tube (or '5800 Tube' to use its apparent less user friendly release name) will arrive this summer in an attempt to beat the 3G iPhone to market. This makes the handset a vastly more attractive proposition, though it looks like a 3.2MP camera will be the best we'll get. As for the screen, it turns out to be 3.2in and while there's just 140MB of onboard memory it will pack an SD card slot.

I agree, it's pretty cool - but how cool will largely depend on price.
