In the last quarter Motorola saw sales slump 38 per cent and its CEO resign, in the quarter before that it lost its global number two position to Samsung. New highly tanned CEO Greg Brown has had enough.

In one of his first actions since taking over from the disastrous reign of Ed 'RAZR PEBL ROKR' Zander, Brown has announced he will be taking direct control of the company's money bleeding handset division. A leaked memo picked up by Reuters revealed the gory details.

The move follows just a few days after Motorola admitted the performance of its handset division had become so poor it had even considered spinning it off in a damage limitation exercise.
