Voice dialling has its fair share of fans and detractors and I, for one, can't be bothered with it (assigning favourites is quicker for me every time). Meanwhile others, including our esteemed editor, swear by it. Given Riyad has an iPhone as well I think I know what his next download will be...

The descriptively titled 'VOICE DIAL for iPhone 1.0' does exactly what it suggests and works by allowing users of unlocked iPhones to record voice samples and assign them to any contact in the address book. Then just speak to dial the number.

Another impressive string to the software's bow is that these voice tags can be assigned to the iPhone's programmes meaning that Email, Google Maps, Safari and even specific Safari bookmarks can all benefit. As a voice dialling sceptic even I have to admit this is rather cool...

Voice Dial for iPhone 1.0 also isn't language dependant since it doesn't rely on a dictionary or vocabulary so this is software that's open to everyone. As for updates, notifications they will pop up automatically in Installer App.

The downside to all of this is - unlike most iPhone apps - the software isn't free, costing €24.95 and that is a limited time offer until February (I suspect because the coders know the SDK could undermine their efforts). Still, it's a pretty compelling solution.

To get a free trial of VOICE DIAL, start Installer on your unlocked iPhone, press 'Sources', then 'Edit', then 'Add'. Next, type 'http://tinyurl.com/2t8cax' and it'll pop up. If your iPhone isn't unlocked you're stuffed.

Happy chatting!
