While 3GSM is expected to throw of its fair share of weird and wonderful alternatives to whatever Apple announces at MacWorld tonight, LG has gotten in ahead of the curve.

With many predicted an iPhone refresh tonight (16GB of storage, possibly 3G) rather than a radical change, LG has today applied some spit and polish to its LG Prada(KE850) - the iPhone's first real challenger which was announced just three days after Job's famous unveiling.

The alterations one year on are minimal at best with the handset now available in a swanky silver finish with silver leather case and matching earphones. Adding a little more substance is the addition of an improved virtual Qwerty keyboard which should prove of more benefit day-to-day.

"The PRADA Phone by LG in ‘Silver' is an extension of a tremendously successful, truly innovative handset," said Skott Ahn, CEO of LG's Mobile Communications Company. "Our new PRADA Phone by LG in ‘Silver', along with the original handset, will now offer more options to our customers around the world who appreciate the true luxury brand experience from a mobile handset."

The Prada in 'Silver' (those inverted commas are exactly how LG wants to see it named in shops and I remain sceptical whether there has ever been a worse use of them) will be made available immediately across Europe for next to nothing on a decent monthly contract.
