Well this is going to make Nokia's Christmas turkey taste rather bitter…

Following its admission in November that the N-Gage platform would be delayed until December, late December has brought news that it will slip into the new year with no specific time schedule revealed.

Nokia refused to go into detail about what caused this further setback simply citing "unexpected difficulties" - by which all we can deduce is closed door testing hasn't gone well. On the upside, Nokia is utilising a sizeable pool of over 1,000 testers so when it does surface the gaming platform should be pretty robust.

In related news, web chitter chatter has been sparked by supposedly leaked shots of the impending Nokia 'N96' (above). Looking more like a successor to the N81 rather than an evolution of the love-it-or-hate-it (I hate it) N95, the model is said to sport a 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens, a touchscreen display, HSDPA and GPS. Still, don't choke on your Christmas pudding just yet until further details get firmed up.

So how was your Christmas? Don't worry if the presents were snooze-worthy because it looks like the best gift you can have for 2008 is a mobile phone contract which ends midway through the year…
