I've resigned myself to the fact that this is iPhone week and while I admire a great deal about the handset (and am even teetering on the brink of buying one), for me I thrive on variation so for all you Apple maniacs out there this commitment is for you...

The latest in a loooong line of Apple developments this week is the release of iTunes 7.5. Thankfully it doesn't bring the dreaded iPod touch/iPhone v1.1.2 relocking update but instead claims to:

"Feature the ability to activate iPhone wherever service is offered and support for Phase, a new interactive music game designed exclusively for iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod (fifth generation). This release also includes bug fixes to improve stability and performance."

All sounds boring enough, but never skip an iTunes release without checking in with those battle hardened chaps at MacRumours Forums...

In this release, for example, the crew have uncovered lines of code related to future features, namely "Sure you want to manually manage your music on your iPhone?" (Number 4320.069 - finally!) which is backed up by "Enabling the iPhone for disk use requires manually ejecting the iPhone before each disconnect, even when automatically syncing music" (4320.073) and a real killer: "The iPhone "^1" contains new voice memos. Would you like to move these voice memos to your iTunes library?" (4320.082) - funky, and great for romantics/blackmailers.

I'm guessing that such features are likely to appear in v1.1.2 - just to make that ultra convenient online unlock you just did leave a bitter taste in your mouth...
