While GPS has only recently become common on high end smartphones it appears that the technology is filtering down the scale at record rates...

To this end the Samsung 'i550' is the most traditional looking GPS handset to date and while we've seen most of its other features elsewhere on the company's mass market Ultra line this is one funky little model.

Making our mouths water, other than our instantly improved sense of navigation, are the defacto 3.2MP camera, a large 2.4in QVGA screen, EDGE and 3G connectivity, 150MB of onboard memory, an FM tuner, Bluetooth 2.0 and a microSD expansion slot. The i550 also - despite the absence of official dimensions - looks just as small and light as most regular handsets.

A rather imminent November release is also currently being held over the i550's head and while there is talk that Vodafone has stepped in to acquire an exclusive (at least for the first few months) the network has issued no formal confirmation.

So will we all soon be walking dangerously head down along the street? Are collision statistics with fellow street walkers and oncoming traffic set to spike? If the i550 is anything to go, I suspect so...
